BCO Mock Exams & Practice Exam Questions | CSI Branch Compliance Officers Course

BCO mock exams and practice exam questions for CSI Branch Compliance Officers Course. Timed practice sets and detailed explanations in the FINRA Exam Prep app (web, iOS, Android).

BCO improves fastest when you practice small sets (one topic at a time) and keep a miss log for:

  • what was missing (KYC, disclosure, evidence, approvals)
  • the rule/theme involved
  • the best “first action” response (hold, request, document, escalate)

Practice modes

  • Timed mock exams: build pacing, endurance, and decision-making under time pressure.
  • Topic drills: fix weak areas fast (best for spaced repetition).
  • Mixed review: combine recent misses with high-yield topics to reinforce retention.
  1. Skim the syllabus and mark high-weight topics.
  2. Drill one topic at a time (untimed first, then timed).
  3. Review explanations immediately and keep a short miss log.
  4. Run a timed mock to measure pacing and coverage.
  5. Re-drill weak sections, then retake a fresh mixed set or mock.

Timing tip

  • Use untimed sets for learning and timed sets for performance.
  • If you keep running out of time, reduce re-reading and aim for a first-pass answer, then review flagged items.

What to pair with practice

  • Overview: what is tested and how to approach questions -> read
  • Syllabus: objectives by topic/domain -> open
  • Cheatsheet: high-yield formulas, tables, and decision pickers -> review
  • Study plan: a simple 30/60/90-day path -> use
  • FAQ: common candidate questions -> see
  • Resources: official references and exam pages -> browse

Tip: The fastest way to improve is to turn every miss into a one-sentence rule and re-drill that topic 48-72 hours later.

What BCO is really testing

BCO rewards “branch supervisor” thinking:

  • is the KYC/account opening complete and defensible?
  • was disclosure delivered in the required form, with evidence?
  • is suitability reasonable and documented (especially leverage)?
  • do sales practices and communications stay inside acceptable standards?
  • if something goes wrong, do you log, escalate, investigate, and remediate correctly?

Official topic weighting (and target question counts)

Source: CSI BCO Exam & Credits page. Target questions are proportional to 80 questions (rounded).

Exam Topics Weight Target questions (out of 80) Chapters (CSI curriculum)
The Role of a Branch Compliance Officer 6% 5 1
Mutual Funds Industry Regulation 12% 10 2
Registration Requirements 12% 10 3
Account Opening 14% 11 4
Disclosure and Suitability Requirements 24% 19 5–6
Mutual Funds Performance Evaluation 8% 6 7
Dealing with Complaints 6% 5 8
Sales Representatives Supervision and Control Systems 18% 14 9–10

How to prepare (practical strategy)

  1. Use the Syllabus as your checklist by weighting.
  2. Build a branch “supervision playbook” from the Cheatsheet : what to review, what to document, and when to escalate.
  3. Drill scenarios: “What’s the deficiency?” → “What is the first correct action?” → “What evidence do we need?”
  4. Do weekly timed mixed sets; keep a miss log with: cue, rule/theme, next action.
