RSE FAQ — Common Questions for CIRO’s Retail Securities Exam

Answers to common RSE questions: what CIRO is testing, how to study efficiently, how this hub is organized, and where to find official CIRO materials.

What is CIRO, and what is RSE?

CIRO is the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization. RSE (Retail Securities Exam) is a proficiency exam focused on practical retail investing and conduct: KYC/KYP and suitability, product literacy (fixed income, equities, managed products), portfolio construction, recommendations, execution/market integrity, and ongoing monitoring and reporting.

What should I focus on most?

Focus on scenario workflow and product fit, not trivia:

  • Start with KYC constraints (horizon, liquidity, risk tolerance/capacity, costs/taxes, authority).
  • Pick the only recommendation/action that satisfies all constraints (and is defensible).
  • When you see a red flag (missing info, unsuitable instruction, integrity cue), choose the answer that stops, escalates, and documents appropriately.

If you want a structured checklist, start with the RSE Syllabus .

Is RSE practice available in the Mastery web app yet?

Yes. Start in RSE Practice for topic drills, mixed review sessions, and timed mocks mapped to the syllabus.

Do I need to memorize every question?

No. Aim for understanding and repeatable rules:

  • If you can pass 3–4 different mock exams at 75%+ while staying within time, you’re likely ready to book.
  • If English is your second language, extra volume can help reading speed and pattern recognition.

Where can I find official CIRO materials?

See the Resources page for official CIRO links (Exam Hub + RSE page).

Is this site affiliated with CIRO?

No. Mastery Exam Prep and Tokenizer Inc. are independent exam-prep providers and are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by CIRO.
