Small Buildings 2024 Study Plan - 4 Weeks to Exam Day

A practical 4-week study plan for the Ontario Small Buildings 2024 BCIN exam.

Week 1 - Build the Part 9 map

  • Read the official Small Buildings syllabus once.
  • Mark the major Part 9 sections you will use most.
  • Make a short trigger list for when a question stops being simple Part 9.

Week 2 - Structure and enclosure

  • Review foundations, framing, roofs, stairs, and enclosure topics.
  • Pair each topic with the related standard or crossover part.
  • End each session with a fast lookup drill.

Week 3 - Services, fire safety, and renovation

  • Review plumbing, ventilation, heating, fire safety, guards, alarms, and egress.
  • Add Part 11 and Part 12 items.
  • Keep a separate list of Part 3 and Part 4 triggers.

Week 4 - Timed mixed review

  • Run three or four timed blocks of mixed Part 9 questions.
  • Review misses by cause:
    • wrong scope
    • wrong system bucket
    • missed standard
    • slow lookup

Final 3 days

  • Re-read your scope trigger list.
  • Review weak supplementary standards.
  • Confirm the exact code cycle tied to your Humber sitting.
