Fire Protection 2024 Study Plan -- 4 Weeks to Exam Day

A practical 4-week study plan for the Ontario Fire Protection 2024 BCIN exam.

Week 1 – Build the Part 3 map

  • Read the official Fire Protection syllabus once.
  • Split Part 3 into major system buckets:
    • classification and fire separations
    • building fire safety
    • safety within floor areas
    • exits and egress
    • service spaces and facilities
    • special occupancies / special structures
  • Build a one-page map of where each bucket lives.

Week 2 – Core fire-safety systems

  • Review fire separations, fire-resistance, alarms, sprinklers, firefighting provisions, exits, and occupant-load related sections.
  • End each session with short open-book retrieval drills so the code map becomes automatic.

Week 3 – Crossover systems

  • Add:
    • Part 6 HVAC fire-safety provisions
    • Part 7 backflow / water-service crossover
    • Part 9 egress and fire-protection items
    • Division C admin rules
    • Part 11 compliance alternatives

Week 4 – Timed mixed review

  • Run three or four timed blocks of mixed prompts.
  • Force yourself to switch between:
    • classification questions
    • alarm / sprinkler questions
    • exits / egress questions
    • service-space questions
    • admin questions
  • Review misses by root cause:
    • wrong bucket
    • wrong code part
    • missed exception
    • slow lookup

Final 3 days

  • Re-read your one-page map and your error log.
  • Revisit the highest-yield Part 3 sections plus the Part 6 and Part 9 crossovers.
  • Confirm the exact code cycle tied to your Humber sitting.
