Building Services 2024 Study Plan - 4 Weeks to Exam Day

A practical 4-week study plan for the Ontario Building Services 2024 BCIN exam.

Week 1 - Build the Part 6 map

  • Read the official Building Services syllabus once.
  • Split Part 6 into ventilation, ducts, equipment, service spaces, and special conditions.
  • Start a lookup list for the standards named in the syllabus.

Week 2 - Core system review

  • Spend one day on each major service bucket.
  • Focus on scope, exceptions, and where crossover rules appear.
  • End each study session with a short retrieval drill.

Week 3 - Fire, plumbing, and transport crossover

  • Review fire dampers, detectors, smoke-control items, plumbing interactions, and vertical transportation.
  • Add Part 11 and Part 12 items.
  • Keep a mistake log tied to the wrong system or wrong crossover trigger.

Week 4 - Timed mixed review

  • Run three or four timed blocks of mixed service-system questions.
  • Review misses by cause:
    • wrong system bucket
    • wrong crossover part
    • missed standard
    • slow lookup

Final 3 days

  • Re-read your standards list.
  • Review weak service-space and fire-crossover topics.
  • Confirm the exact code cycle tied to your Humber sitting.
