Roadmap: Helpdesk to Networking and Security

A practical stack for general IT roles that lead into networking, cybersecurity, ISC2, Cisco CyberOps, GitHub security, and advanced CompTIA routes.

If your goal is broad IT competence that can later branch into security, this is a common path.

Suggested order

  1. Start with A+ Core 1 if you are new to IT support.
  2. Add A+ Core 2 to strengthen OS, security, and support workflow basics.
  3. Move to Network+ once the hardware and support vocabulary feels natural.
  4. Use Security+ as the capstone for broad entry-level security preparation.

How to use this path

  • Start with A+ if you are brand new to IT support; otherwise you can start at Network+.
  • Do short drills until the vocabulary is easy, then add mixed sets and timed mocks.
  • Treat Security+ as the capstone: it rewards pattern recognition and time management.
  • Use update-request pages for newer or advanced routes to choose direction first; not every listed route has the same live simulator depth yet.
