NISM Series V-A Study Plan
Use a four-week or compressed two-week plan for the 12 NISM Series V-A units, weighted practice, calculations, investor services, and timed mock exams.
Start with a diagnostic
Take one mixed set before reading everything again. Record three facts for each miss:
- the unit;
- the distinction or calculation you missed;
- whether the cause was knowledge, interpretation, arithmetic, currentity, or timing.
That error log should determine how you use the plan.
Four-week plan
| Week | Primary units | Practice objective |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Units 1-4 | Investor needs, mutual-fund structure, participant roles, legal framework, and regulation |
| 2 | Units 5-8 | Scheme documents, distribution conduct, NAV and expenses, unit pricing, and tax application |
| 3 | Units 9-12 | Investor services, risk and return, performance evaluation, benchmarks, and scheme selection |
| 4 | All units | Timed mixed mocks, weak-area repair, calculations, and final current-rule review |
Daily session pattern
- 10 minutes: recall yesterday’s distinctions without notes.
- 20-30 minutes: study one compact objective or process.
- 20-30 minutes: answer unseen questions from that unit.
- 10 minutes: review explanations and update the error log.
Use a longer session once or twice each week for a mixed set. Do not spend every session inside one unit; mixed retrieval is needed before the exam.
Weight-aware practice
Investor Services and Scheme Selection carry 15% each. Legal and Regulatory Framework and Scheme Related Information carry 10% each. These four units account for half of the published weight, so they deserve repeated mixed practice.
Smaller units still matter. A four-question unit can decide whether a borderline result reaches the 50% pass mark.
Two-week compressed plan
| Days | Focus |
|---|---|
| 1-2 | Units 1-3 and a short mixed set |
| 3-4 | Units 4-6 and distributor/document distinctions |
| 5-6 | Units 7-8 and calculation/tax practice |
| 7-9 | Unit 9 investor-service processes |
| 10-11 | Units 10-12 and suitability/performance decisions |
| 12 | Full timed mock and error review |
| 13 | Weak-unit drills and formula review |
| 14 | Final unseen mixed set, light review, and rest |
Timing plan
The public format allows 120 minutes for 100 questions, an average of 72 seconds per question.
| Checkpoint | First-pass target |
|---|---|
| Question 25 | 28 minutes |
| Question 50 | 55 minutes |
| Question 75 | 83 minutes |
| Question 100 | 110 minutes |
| Checks and marked questions | 10 minutes |
Because there is no negative marking, leave no question unanswered. Make the best supported choice, mark uncertainty if the delivery interface permits, and preserve the final review margin rather than spending it on one difficult item.
Readiness standard
Aim for several unseen mixed attempts above your personal target, not one lucky pass. A practical target is a stable margin above 50%, no major unit repeatedly failing, and the ability to explain why the best option fits the facts.
Use the free full-length practice exam for a public diagnostic and the Finance Prep app for new mixed sets, history, and weak-area review.
