PL-300 Exam Blueprint: Power BI Skills and Practice

Power Query and Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) are central to preparation. The outline also includes current capabilities such as Direct Lake, calculation groups, visual calculations, and specified Copilot tasks. Use the official list to check their exact scope rather than treating PL-300 as a memorization test of older menu names.
Make a readiness record
Choose a missed practice question and write three short entries:
- Required result: what the analyst or report consumer actually needs.
- Deciding evidence: the data, relationship, expression, or permission that determines the answer.
- Verification: how you would check the result in a small report or in Microsoft documentation.
For a modeling gap, sketch the tables and describe what one row represents before trying another calculation. Microsoft’s star-schema guidance explains the different purposes of fact and dimension tables and why granularity matters.
For an access gap, record the user’s workspace role and expected data visibility separately. Microsoft’s row-level security documentation is a useful reference when checking the security configuration.
Balance preparation
Give the three larger domains sustained practice, while keeping management and security in mixed sessions. Increase time on a weak domain until you can handle different evidence, then return to a balanced set. The official ranges describe exam coverage; they do not prescribe how much study time you personally need.
