Current Series 27 practice
The current bank contains 696 original practice questions, checked for this page on September 16, 2026. Practice covers the five functions in FINRA’s Series 27 content outline , with the bank’s topic allocation approximately proportional to the official scored-item distribution.
| Function | Official scored items | Current practice questions |
|---|---|---|
| Financial Reporting | 25 | 120 |
| Operations, General Securities Industry Regulations, and Preservation of Books and Records | 42 | 202 |
| Customer Protection | 24 | 116 |
| Net Capital | 41 | 196 |
| Funding and Cash Management | 13 | 62 |
| Total | 145 | 696 |
The official allocation is published on FINRA’s Series 27 exam page . Topic proportions are one coverage check; learning also requires attention to the rules, exceptions and calculations within each function.
The current bank uses four-option, single-best-answer questions. Applied cases and exhibits ask you to interpret financial information, perform calculations and choose a response supported by the facts. Two questions include diagrams. The free 145-question practice exam lets you inspect examples and explanations before continuing in Finance Prep.
These are independent Finance Prep practice materials. FINRA’s official outline and rules remain the primary sources for scope and regulatory requirements. This bank is live; we continue expanding and refining practice based on learner usage, feedback and syllabus updates.
Dated improvements
September 16, 2026 - A visible improvement record and direct feedback
Added this page and a Series 27 feedback form, linked from the main practice page and sidebar. Corrected the main page’s question count to describe the current bank. The dated entries below identify when the earlier question and study-page changes were made.
You can report a question issue, suggest coverage or describe an app improvement without subscribing to email updates. A reply email is optional, and permission to publish a quote or name is separate.
September 15, 2026 - Rebuilt practice, reviewed calculations and refreshed public questions
Published the rebuilt 696-question bank with applied cases and financial exhibits across all five functions. The rebuild gives explicit attention to the separate regulatory debt-equity requirement, alongside aggregate indebtedness, customer reserves, capital deductions and funding decisions.
Examples of the work now included:
- Net Capital: distinguish tests that use different numerators and denominators, apply deductions to the relevant positions, and assess how a transaction changes the firm’s position.
- Customer Protection: interpret reserve computations, distinguish a required balance from an additional deposit, and identify the timing and operating assumptions that affect the result.
- Funding and Cash Management: distinguish qualifying subordinated funding, collateral support and cash actually available to meet obligations.
- Reporting and operational controls: use records, reconciliations and evidence of an operational failure to determine the appropriate response.
Two review passes accompanied the release. The first addressed regulatory treatment, timing, assumptions and explanation consistency. A second targeted review checked haircut exhibits and secured-demand-note collateral against the relevant rules, corrected affected calculations, and improved competing responses in business-continuity cases. The published corrections retain question identities and existing study history.
The free practice exam was then refreshed from the reviewed current bank. Its 145 questions include answer explanations, plus a worksheet for reviewing performance by function. It is one fixed set; repeat scores can reflect remembered questions as well as improved understanding.
September 14, 2026 - Worked calculations and a clearer study path
Improved the Series 27 supporting pages with worked calculations and more specific study guidance. The scenario guide includes capital, debt-equity, reserve and margin examples. The blueprint checklist helps you track the broader official scope, including topics that may not appear in a particular mock.
The recommended sequence is to study an unfamiliar rule or calculation, practise that topic with explanations, attempt a fresh mixed mock, and review the weakest areas. The cheat sheet supports revision; use a comprehensive study guide and worked examples when learning a topic for the first time.
How we review practice
Review priorities include regulatory accuracy, calculation setup and arithmetic, clear assumptions, plausible alternatives and explanations that support the keyed answer. Reviews are directed toward areas of risk and reported issues. Each dated entry describes completed work; further corrections and useful expansion remain part of maintaining the bank.
Finance Prep practice scores are not validated predictions of a Series 27 result. Review wrong answers, correct guesses, slow calculations and recognized questions separately. A strong overall percentage can still conceal a gap in one function. Use the study plan and practice-score guidance to choose your next study step.
