Databricks Context Engineer Associate Study Plan

Organize a two-week preparation cycle around the seven context-engineering domains, hands-on checks, explained practice and mixed attempts.

Use this two-week cycle if you already build data or AI applications. Extend any block that exposes a gap; completing a calendar does not establish exam readiness. Keep the official guide and a short error log beside your practice.

DaysMain workEvidence of understanding
1–2Foundations and instruction designTrace the sources entering a prompt; resolve conflicting rules and distinguish data from authority.
3–5Retrieval and GenieInspect filters, candidate sets, ranking, freshness, permissions and SQL result grain.
6–7Memory architectureSeparate session history, persistent facts and workflow state; define ownership and retention.
8–9Tools and MCPFollow caller identity, scopes and execution checks; read schemas and returned evidence.
10Compression and compactionPreserve constraints, unresolved work and citations while meeting a stated budget.
11–12Multi-agent and long-horizon tasksRepair handoffs, assign dependencies and recover from checkpoints without repeating side effects.
13Mixed practiceAttempt the 45-question set with 90 minutes and closed explanations.
14Review and retestRevisit uncertain decisions with fresh questions, then check the current official guide.

Use a deliberate practice loop

  1. Attempt a small group in IT Mastery and write down why your selected answer fits the facts.
  2. Review every option. For Select TWO, identify the evidence for each selection and why adding another would be wrong.
  3. Log the failure type: missing knowledge, overlooked condition, wrong product boundary, arithmetic or unsupported inference.
  4. Reproduce one small example using authorized data or the official documentation.
  5. Return to a fresh scenario after a delay rather than immediately memorizing the same choices.

Keep useful review notes

____________

For retrieval errors, record whether the relevant row was eligible, retrieved and then ranked. For memory problems, name the storage boundary and identity key. For tool problems, name the caller and operation—not merely the tool’s display name.

Pace mixed attempts

Ninety minutes for a 45-question practice set averages two minutes per item. Some traces or tables take longer; recover time on shorter decisions. Mark uncertain choices and continue. Read whether a question requests one answer or two before selecting.

Use practice results to decide what to review. A repeated-set score can reflect memory, and no app score guarantees a certification result. Confirm booking, identification and delivery instructions through Databricks; app access does not book the exam.
