CSC1 Core Readiness Study Plan: Build and Review Knowledge
Organize Core Readiness study across industry, technical and client topics, with calculation practice and a repeatable review routine.
Start by confirming the program name in your enrolment or study materials. This plan supports the new CSC1: Core Readiness program. Classic Canadian Securities Course learners should use the separate CSC Exam 1 or CSC Exam 2 resources.
CSI’s new CSC page , checked September 30, 2026, still describes the program as coming soon. This is an adjustable learning schedule based on the announced subject areas. It does not assume a final-exam length, pass mark or official topic weighting. Keep the coverage and exam-status page alongside your CSI materials.
Four study blocks
Work through these blocks over four weeks if that suits your background. Repeat or extend a block when you need more study; the calendar is not a completion requirement.
| Block | Main work | Check your understanding |
|---|---|---|
| 1: Industry Readiness | Read about market participants, regulation, ethics, financing, trading and settlement. Trace who owes what to whom in a simple transaction. | Explain the actor, obligation and sequence before choosing an action in a fresh case. |
| 2: Technical Readiness | Compare securities and managed products, practise cash-flow and return calculations, and connect company information to risk. | Set up the calculation without the answer choices; state the units and explain why the result is plausible. |
| 3: Client Readiness | Study discovery, account opening, product review, suitability, ongoing service and planning foundations. | Separate known client facts from assumptions and identify what must be established before a recommendation. |
| 4: Integration and review | Mix the three areas, revisit earlier errors and practise interpreting a record or diagram before answering. | Explain the deciding fact and the weakness in the closest alternative without looking at the rationale. |
Keep a useful error log
After each short set, record the topic, your reason for choosing the answer and the correction you need. Distinguish missing knowledge, incorrect arithmetic, a misread qualification and an unsupported assumption. Include correct guesses and slow answers.
Choose the next action from the error. Read a lesson for a missing concept, redo a calculation from a blank page, or trace the parties and cash flows in a diagram. Use the cheat sheet for recall after studying, then answer different questions on the same concept later.
Use the preview once, then vary practice
The free practice preview illustrates question and explanation style. Try it before revealing the solutions and note your reasoning. A repeated score on the same fixed questions may reflect recall, so use fresh topic and mixed practice for subsequent checks.
Compare similar practice settings and look for recurring errors across sessions. No practice percentage establishes an official pass likelihood. When CSI publishes assessment details, use its current requirements to plan exam-day timing rather than importing the classic CSC format.
