CFE Day 1 Official Resources: Case Scope and Candidate Checks
Find CPA and regional-body sources for Day 1 case linkage, competency expectations, current instructions and the PEP pathway.
Use these sources for the CPA PEP/CFE Day 1 pathway. Finance Prep supplies independent companion cases; your administrator and assigned materials govern registration, permitted resources and the official written assessment.

Mastery Exam Prep is independent companion practice: original practice questions and explanations, not official questions, copied live-exam content, or exam dumps.
Match each question to the right source
| Source | What it establishes | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| CPAWSB Common Final Examination overview | The CFE’s three-day structure and Day 1’s Capstone relationship | Confirm that you are preparing for PEP/CFE Day 1. |
| CPAWSB Capstone and CFE FAQs | How the Capstone background supports the integrative assessment | Follow the instructions applicable to your assigned case and attempt. |
| CPAWSB Capstone 1 scheduling and support | Current module/case administration and scheduling context | Check your offering rather than relying on an older timetable. |
| CPA Ontario CFE guides and resources | Candidate guidance and CPA-authored assessment resources | Obtain current examination instructions and authorized reports through the professional body. |
| CPA Competency Map Part 1, May 2022 | CPA-authored competency expectations, effective January 2023 | Read the enabling and common technical expectations; this is a university-hosted copy. |
| CPAWSB information for candidates completing PEP | PEP completion and transition guidance | Verify the pathway and timetable that apply to your registration. |
The dated map is a framework reference, not proof of every sitting’s standards, tax updates or administrative requirements. Candidates outside these regions should use their own provincial or regional administrator for enrolment, accommodations, conduct and exam-day instructions.
Obtain the materials that these drills cannot replace
Use your assigned Capstone case and authorized full-response practice for the written assessment. Read an available Board of Examiners report to understand examples of case analysis and debriefing, without treating one report as the latest syllabus or converting its assessment language into a four-question score.
The companion uses self-contained fictional businesses. Familiarity with a current official case is unnecessary for its questions. It does not grant permission to reproduce restricted case materials, replace authorized candidate resources or infer the official marking scheme.
Candidate questions
Can I use another candidate’s old schedule or case instructions?
Use the instructions for your own attempt. Case assignments, offering dates, permitted materials and transition arrangements can differ.
Does the competency map settle annual technical currency?
No. Pair the applicable map and blueprint with your sitting’s technical updates and examination reference instructions. A supplied fictional rate is an assumption for that exercise, not a universal current tax rule.
Is Day 1 the same as an elective or Day 2 role?
No. This companion supports strategic and enabling judgment using common technical knowledge. Check the official sources for the distinct requirements of each assessment.
Do selected answers show that I can write a passing response?
They provide evidence about those practice decisions. They do not assess the organization, depth and communication of a complete written response. Write and debrief full cases as well.
