Published syllabus structure

APMG publishes five main Foundation syllabus areas. Public APMG pages do not publish detailed percentage weights for them, so the equal split below is a PM Mastery practice-planning allocation, not an official exam blueprint.

Syllabus areaPractice-planning shareRepresentative scope
Organisational Context and Approach20%Benefits and adoption, context, culture, systems, force fields, structured and emergent approaches, strategy
People and Change20%Human response, transition, motivation, resilience, anxiety, competence, and learning
Change Leadership and Teams20%Sponsors, change roles, influence, psychological safety, team development, effectiveness, and diversity
Stakeholders and Communication20%Identification, power, mapping, engagement, communication theory, messages, channels, and planning

For a 50-question practice mock, that creates ten questions per area. Use the equal mix to detect broad gaps, then let your results determine where the next drill should concentrate.

Foundation depth boundary

Foundation can testKeep for Practitioner depth
Meaning, purpose, distinction, concept mapping, and compact applicationExtended case diagnosis and multi-step recommendations

Read a question in four passes

  1. Target: Which syllabus area and concept is being tested?
  2. Evidence: Which fact actually distinguishes the options?
  3. Depth: Is the question asking for meaning, purpose, classification, evidence, or the next compact response?
  4. Fit: Which option answers that exact request without solving a different change problem?

Timing checkpoints

ProgressTarget elapsed time
Question 108 minutes
Question 2016 minutes
Question 3024 minutes
Question 4032 minutes
Question 5040 minutes

Do not spend several minutes rescuing one uncertain item. Choose the best-supported option, flag it if the delivery platform permits, and protect time for the remaining questions.

Readiness evidence

Use unseen mixed attempts rather than immediate retakes. A practical readiness signal is several timed sessions above your target score, no syllabus area repeatedly collapsing, and the ability to explain both the correct option and the distractor logic.
